When you don’t find the time to return? Let’s talk… #GriefTalkTuesday

I haven’t been back.

I’ll be honest the last time that I went to the cemetery to visit my father’s burial site was May 2013.  Approximately ninety days since he was placed in the ground, and I haven’t returned.

Why?

I just had a couple of reasons for not doing so:

  1.  His gravesite is about 1.5 hours away from my hometown.
  2.  I wasn’t living in my home state for 3 out of the 4 years that he’s been deceased.

Oh.  Were you looking for more reasons?  That’s really all I got.

I had a young lady that once told me that she’s never been back to the gravesite, and the more I travel this journey of grief I realized that it’s her prerogative to feel that way.  Everyone is different and I feel we shouldn’t be forced.  It will happen organically, or we will find other ways to honor that person.

Is it hard for you to visit the cemetery?  I want to hear from you.  Let me know in the comments below.  Don’t worry there’s no wrong answer.  I just want some feedback on this topic since I’m beginning to hear it a lot.  Also, if you decided to cremate, what did you decide to do with the ashes?

Enjoy your holiday!

XOXO,

RJ
