When I was informed that Chef G. Garvin was going to be in my hometown to host a cooking competition with our local teens I was ecstatic.
Do you have a minute? I need to take you on a quick ride down memory lane with me.
It was the spring of 2013 in Michigan. My father had just passed the month before, and I was on a quest of rediscovery.
I sat in my sister’s basement with no direction, because I was unable to process what I was going to do next.
It was 7 am on a Monday morning and I was awaken by this voice on the tv. I would fall asleep watching TV1 most nights so that’s essentially what I woke up too as well.
It was Chef G. Garvin.
I would watch his show when I was home from school in college, but this time it was different. He was traveling to different places exploring the food and culture. There was one place in particular I won’t forget; Charleston. In that moment I thought man he’s living the dream. Why can’t I do the same?
I got to work immediately. I allowed his show to be my alarm clock every morning for the three months that I was with my sister. My drive was different. I had to live out my dreams.
Fast forward to this day. I was determined to tell him what his show did for my life. We took this photo before his departure, and presented him with a copy of my book. BECAUSE I wrote the outline of my book while his show was on every morning.
When God allows you to cross paths with someone that inspired or changed your life, don’t forget to show them some love or share your story with them. ❤️
Xoxo,
